I would like to introduce myself.  My name is Robert Tinagero (aka) "Waffles".  I am a licensed motorcycle racer with AFM, WERA and WSMC.  I am eighteen years old and a recent graduate from Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, California.  I started riding motorcycles when I was seventeen.  I competed in my first race October 2007 at Buttonwillow Raceway.  Currently, I am campaigning a 2007 Kawasaki, ZX6.  In this my first full year of competition, I'm in a very close contest for AFM's Top Novice title.  In WERA, I am holding second place in C-Superstock and third in B-Superstock.

January 2009 Competition Update  AFM Plate # 134  -  WERA Plate # 234

I competed in two WERA WEST rounds in January, the first at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, the second one at Las Vegas Speedway.

FONTANA

As expected with a new bike, we had to shake out some of the bugs on Saturday before starting the Sunday races in the second wave.  In B-Bike I scored a 7th place.  Unfortunately, a tragic accident took the life of a racer, which limited all remaining classes to four laps.  With a starting  position of 20th we managed to finish in 14th in C-Superstock, while salvaging a 4th place in C-Superbike.  Due to darkness, we ran out of time for the B-Superbike class to race.  This was rescheduled for makeup at the Las Vegas round.

LAS VEGAS

Friday started out with a wet track from the rain, but drier weather arrived.  We had a very productive practice-tips from Josh Hayes and James Randolph, which helped me take four seconds of my previous lap times!  Saturday's race was the makeup for the dark-out at Fontana.  I got a good start in the B-stock race, but was held up behind a couple of riders and ran out of laps trying to catch the leader.  Still, we had a 2nd place finish.  In the 20-lap Solo (money) race, I was 4th off the line, but equipment issues kept me from pushing as hard as I would liked to.  I finished where I started, in 4th.  Sunday came and James' new idea on gearing and Joshs' input on suspension adjustments yielded another one second drop in lap times, which was very encouraging.  In my C-Superbike race, I didn't have a great start and worked very hard to score a 2nd place finish.  The next race B-Superbike race everything came together, great start, three strong laps to get out in front, and never looking back to take the flag in 1st place!  Next were the C-Stock race, good start, good laps and a 3rd place finish.  Finally, the B-Stock race.  I started well, but had some recruiting equipment issues that kept me circulating in 2nd place until some luck came along in the form of the leader passing under a waving yellow flag.  The resulting penalty handed me the victory!  All in all, a great weekend in Vegas!  My WERA WEST standings after the first two rounds:                                                 B-Stock 1st ; B-Superbike 1st ; C-Stock 5th ; C-Superbike 2nd ~~ I am off the month of February and will be running some testing at Infineon.  I am looking forward to my next race in March.
